Breaking Down the Barriers
The typical image that comes to mind when we think of environmental activists and paper companies is one of conflict and polarization. That is certainly not the case at Cascades, the company and its founders have a long history of recycling and paying special attention to environmental practices. This philosophy made a partnership with Markets Initiative a natural one. But the secret to our success together lies in the basic principles of supply and demand and how Markets Initiative has worked to bring the demand side (paper users) and the supply side (paper manufacturers) together.

Developing new products is a capital-intensive process, particularly in the paper industry. Having some comfort level that once developed, there will be a market for a new product can make the difference between a project going forward or not.
That was exactly the case for Cascades and the development of a new line of printing papers made from 100% post-consumer recycled fiber, Enviro100. The challenge was to develop a product that would provide the same features as its virgin counterparts and produce it a cost that end users could afford.
Enviro 100 has been on the market now for almost two years, it has been a huge success with end users and is continuing to gain market awareness and sales."
